Our family was gathered in Bowness-on-Windemere for a vacation and we tripped across the Angel Inn in our search for a place to lunch and to escape the rain and damp. We were greeted by a cosy parlor and a warming fire. The pub was very charming and its large, paned windows allowed us great views of the grounds.
Given that there were seven of us, all adults, and that we made a second trip back as the food was so good, we extensively sampled the menu. I began to make a list of the dishes we found to be he most enjoyable but realized I was listing most of the menu… but I will note the “Trio of Lakeland Sausages”, “Pate” and the “Ploughman’s Platter”. I’ve traveled throughout Great Britain over the past thirty-eight years and the Angel Inn pub ranks as one of my favorites… classic pub food, superbly prepared. What a find!
First of three breaks
Spent the first of three winter breaks at the Angel this week.
Great place to stay especially with all the recent room improvements.
We stayed in room 6 which is described as a “petite double”. Well to be honest we thought it was more than that and just describing it as a “double” would be nearer the mark.
Very comfy, great shower, cracking bed, and all the conveniences you could need for a short break.
With the log fire burning from early morning its a warm friendly place.
Just 2 mins walk to the piers in Bowness bay, 1 minute walk to the nearest bus stop you just cant go wrong for ease of travel either on the lake or by bus.
The staff at the Angel are fantastic, nothing is to much trouble for them and they all always have a smile and a pleasant demeanour. Once again if your looking for a great place to stay for a long or short break you wont find a better place than the Angel.
Well done to you all and we cant wait for December to roll round for our next visit.

Great location and lovely hotel
Great central location within walking distance of all Bowness amenities, shops and lakeside cruises etc. Lovely cosy individual rooms that you can view online before booking.
Very welcoming and efficient staff.
Well stocked bar and lovely food on offer.
Beautiful terraced garden for eating and drinking in relaxed surroundings.
we come every year
We come every year, the staff are always so lovely. We actually got engaged here on the 30th March 2017!!
Everything was perfect!!
Next time we would like to try a lake side view room but all the rooms on the left as you go up the stairs are perfect!!
Stayed for 3 nights at Angel and it was wonderful. We stayed in room 12 which has a nice view across the town and lake. The breakfast was top class and you could tell only the best local produce was used.We had dinner 1 night and that was also lovely. The bar is well stocked and had a good choice of draught beers and lager. We really liked the atmosphere at the Angel and will definitely stay here again. A big thumbs up to all the staff who were superb.Well done and thanks.
a beautiful place to stay
Set in a brilliant location just minutes from the lake and all restaurants and bars nearby. I’ve stayed in quite a few of the hotels in Windermere and this has to be the best in my opinion. Staff very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Rooms and furnishings finished to a very high standard. After walking all day you can relax in front of an open fire. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to stay here.
very friendly and excellent food
A very pleasant visit on Sunday evening. Very nice food and dog friendly. This place as a lovely ambience is well appointed and exceptionally well run. One of the staff members was leaving and working her last shift. The management presented her with flowers and a gift. A lovely touch.
Had a another couple of nights away, room 11 this time, what a quaint room beautifully appointed, just what you want. Again the staff just can’t do enough for you. Gotta give Jamie a special mention, he never forgets a face, and so pleasant. I defy anyone to find s nicer place in Bowness for the price.
Breakfast is just so special, the rooms spotless and staff so friendly. Again another big well done to The Angel.
Have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. A lovely indoor and outdoor eatery with great views of the lake. Food excellent with a good choice of dishes. Staff friendly, helpful and happy. Highly recommended for drinks, lunch and dinner.
We stayed for two nights and had an excellent stay. The room was to a high standard, the shower was hot and powerful! The breakfast was great we had a good choice and there was plenty to choose from on the continental side of things. We will definitely stay again!
angel from heaven
Once again the Angel delivered. Ok, it’s a few minutes walk uphill from the main drag but it’s worth it. Period dining room with a good choice on the lunch menu plus good, friendly, efficient service & reasonably priced. They must be doing it right otherwise the eight visits over four years would have been stopped in the tracks.
Had a wonderful two night stay. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and enjoyed it so much we reserved a table for our last night. Was just as well as it was extremely busy and no wonder as the food was delicious and the service was great. Cannot fault the staff from check in,breakfast drinks and dinner. Everyone we met was friendly efficient and professional. Can’t wait to return.
Popped in for a drink with the dog and pram, sat next to log fire and had a drink. Not cheap but not too expensive either, was a really nice setting after a long walk. Food people were eating looked good so Decided to book in the restaurant for a meal later that day, and managed to get last table. The food was excellent, the spiced roast chicken and tomato soup was amazing. Food prices reasonable for a high standard of restaurant. Will definitely be back when next visit
Great value for money on there web sight offer
Well its good to stay with you again. All your hard work & investment is paying off. The new manager seems to be good at his job, spending just enough time for a quick chat, nice. Ps if you fancy selling us room 15 at some time that would be good. Hope you have a good winter season, we will be back to see you soon
We had late afternoon drinks followed by dinner here on a Saturday in September. Plenty of outdoor seating, small cosy area with real fire, a couple of larger rooms. Good choice of ales. Menu was good pub food – we had fish & chips and chicken pie, both great. Would recommend.
